Greater Valley Receives Grant for Oxygen Blast Shield
Greater
Valley EMS recently received a grant through the Mildred Faulkner Truman
Foundation of Owego, NY, to purchase a containment fill station which
protects its emergency responders while refilling portable oxygen
cylinders. Portable oxygen cylinders are used every day to carry
life-saving oxygen to patient’s sides as an initial treatment for many
emergency situations; they are also used every day by Greater Valley’s
paratransit clients with chronic breathing problems during their transport
to medical appointments. The cylinders are then refilled
at Greater Valley’s base station.
Compressed gas can be a safety hazard if the integrity of the cylinder is compromised, and refilling compressed gas cylinders can be especially hazardous. With this containment fill station specifically designed for oxygen cylinders, Greater Valley EMS has virtually eliminated the possibility of serious injury during the process of refilling portable oxygen cylinders.
Greater Valley employee, Jason Vanderpool, fills a portable oxygen cylinder safely utilizing the containment fill station recently put into service at Greater Valley EMS after a grant through Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation, Owego, NY made the purchase possible.
