GVEMS APPOINTS JUNIOR MEMBER COORDINATOR

Teri Lathrop, EMT, has been appointed volunteer Junior Membership Program Coordinator at Greater Valley EMS.  The appointment would make Ms. Lathrop responsible for recruitment, growth and general operations of the Junior Membership program.

Mrs. Lathrop has been a volunteer EMT at Greater Valley since December 1983, and has been involved with the Junior Program since its inception.  Her oldest son completed the program when he graduated in 2008, and her youngest is a current junior member.  Lathrop lives in Sayre with her husband and two sons.

The Junior Membership Program is an opportunity for qualified high school students to join GVEMS and experience EMS as a third crew member.  Junior members are able to have limited participation in all of the services that Greater Valley EMS provides including training programs, medical transport, fundraising, community service and tertiary medical support.

Recent changes in the program include the extension of membership to teenagers as young as fourteen.  “They are not able to ride on the ambulance until they are at least 16 years of age and an EMT” remarks Lathrop, “however, they can get training, assist with medi-van transports and participate in fundraisers.”

For more information about this release or the Junior Membership Program, contact Sonya Bement, Outreach Supervisor at Greater Valley EMS at 570-888-6000 X228 or visit gvems.org.
