MEMORIAL GARDEN UNDERWAY – DEDICATION SET FOR SEPTEMBER 11TH
There is quite a mess out front of Greater Valley EMS, 904 N. Lehigh Ave, Sayre. The plants and weeds have been pulled from the ground and a tractor is doing its best to smooth out the angry soil. Leave it to teenagers like Junior Member, Meghan Porter to create such chaos out of order. The unique twist on this teenager’s story is that Meghan is ripping up the ground to make something good and long lasting . . . a memorial garden designed to honor our hometown heroes.
“I decided to do this for my senior leadership project to honor people like my mom and dad” explains Porter, “they are both regular people and heroes to both me and people in the Valley”. Porter attends Sayre High School and lives in the borough. She has been a member of the GVEMS Junior program since 2005.
The Memorial Garden will be in front of the GVEMS Offices at Lehigh Avenue and will contain both flowers and ornaments. There will be a large dedication-stone in the center of the garden and a memorial brick-yard extending approximately five feet to the front and sides of the garden. Memorial bricks will be six by nine inches and available for purchase and dedication for $50 each to past local heroes in public service. The memorial garden is to be completed and opened with a private ceremony on September 11, 2009.
To purchase a brick in memoriam of local police, fire and EMS personnel, please call GVEMS Outreach Supervisor at 570-888-6000 X228, or stop by the office.
