NEW RESCUE SLICE TOOL IN-SERVICE AT GVEMS

Training is under way at the Rescue Division of GVEMS this week on the new Arcair exothermic slice Pack Cutting System.  The system is designed to cut through virtually any material, including metal and masonry, very quickly and easily.  “Proficient use of this new slice tool can lead to life or death in an emergency entrapment situation” comments Bryan Farr, Rescue Lieutenant, “and we intend to adequately prepare for its use before it goes on the truck.”

The slicing tool is lightweight and fueled by oxygen, heating up to 10,500 degrees Fahrenheit.  It will cut through metal bars, concrete barriers, steel grates and deadbolt locks with ease and it will ignite and function under water.  It is safe to use on the entrapped or impaled patient because it’s heat will only transfer about two inches from the point of contact.

Funding for the Arcair Slice pack was made possible through the support of the Valley community.  The tool is expected to be in-service and ready to use by February 1st.  For more information regarding this tool or the Rescue Division of GVEMS, contact Bryan Farr, Rescue Lieutenant at 570-888-6000.
