The
giving spirit of
Christmas didn’t
pass by the youngest
members of Greater
Valley EMS. The
nine members of the
GVEMS Junior Program
all took part in
fundraising and
community service
activities around
the valley.
In early November,
the Juniors decided
to take an active
role in the WATS/WAVR
“Christmas is for
Kids” toy drive.
They went to work
right away
advertising their
involvement among
the GVEMS membership
and setting up toy
drop boxes around
the station. Their
fundraising efforts
culminated on
December 19th,
when they
hand-delivered their
baskets of donations
to the live WATS/WAVR
broadcast in front
of the Sayre
Theater.
In addition to the
“Christmas is for
Kids” toy drive, the
Juniors took it upon
themselves to
‘adopt’ a needy
family in the
community. They
helped to redeem
hundreds of deposit
cans & bottles,
collected change,
nd assisted with a
raffle for a giant
gift bag which
included a teddy
bear, tickets to
Sayre Theater and
lottery tickets.
The adopted family
will receive over
$200 worth of toys
and gift
certificates to open
on Christmas Day.
The Juniors took
turns ringing the
bell for the
Salvation Army
kettle-campaign on
December 17th
in front of the
Keystone Avenue
P&C. Their giving
concluded on
Saturday, December
19th,
when they
volunteered their
time to set up and
clean up for the
GVEMS Children’s
Christmas party.
