When it comes to
crunching and
cutting steel in an
emergency, the
Greater Valley EMS
Rescue Team rests at
the top of their
game. Proficiency
and accuracy in
rescue techniques
can only be achieved
through real-life,
hands–on training
with all types of
vehicles in a wide
variety of
settings. Huckles,
the Valley’s go-to
company for towing
and recovery, have
gone out of their
way to consistently
ensure that the
rescue team has the
tools they need to
get the job done.
In October of this
year, Huckles again
came through by
delivering two
vehicles, a sedan
and a mini-van, for
the GVEMS Rescue
Team to cut, crunch
and dissect. “Our
technicians are
finding the fastest
and safest ways to
extricate an acutely
injured victim from
a motor vehicle
collision”, remarks
Derrick Hall, Rescue
Division Captain,
“without the stress
that an actual
emergency can
bring”.
Rescue is the
primary division to
use the automobiles
in training, but the
GVEMS Dive Team
benefits from the
donations as well.
“A couple times a
year we will deliver
cars to the Barton
quarry for the Dive
Team to sink and
recover with their
airbags” adds Ed
Bostwick, co-owner
of Huckles Towing
and Recovery.
The latest donations
were used for
approximately two
weeks and provided
hands-on training
for nearly a dozen
members of the GVEMS
Rescue. Following
the trainings,
Huckles returns and
collects what pieces
remain for
recycling.
Throughout the year,
Huckles typically
donates more than
two-dozen vehicles.
“These donations
are an example of
how the entire
Valley pulls
together to support
Greater Valley EMS.
A good portion of
the cars we deliver
for training come
from both Sandroni
and Tracy Sutton
Salvage” adds
Bostwick, “We all
contribute to this
great cause – we all
win when we support
our local
community”.
